Our main exhibition “Life by the sea” tells the story of the very first Norwegians and how they used the available resources through the ages – from hunting to fishing and farming, from peat cutting to oil and gas, and now moving towards the green transition.

Join a traditional wedding party in Øygarden. A beautiful bridal dress with an accompanying crown is the natural centre of the exhibition, but the guests and the party itself are also cordially present.

I rowed out

Fishing for your own dinner as well as for sale on the fish market in Bergen. Home fishing has long traditions on the islands by the sea, both as food and as a way of life.
