Our main exhibition “Life by the sea” tells the story of the very first Norwegians and how they used the available resources through the ages – from hunting to fishing and farming, from peat cutting to oil and gas, and now moving towards the green transition.

Do you want to get married Anna...?

Join a traditional wedding party in Øygarden. A beautiful bridal dress with an accompanying crown is the natural centre of the exhibition, but the guests and the party itself are also cordially present.

I rowed out

Fishing for your own pot and for sale in the town. Home fishing has long traditions on the islands by the sea, both as food and as a way of life.
