Life along the coast

Our main exhibition “Life along the coast” shows how the people of Øygarden have used the natural resources differently throughout thousands of years. From the first people arriving here just after the last ice age, via fishing and small scale farming up until our modern days where the oil and gas industry is very much present.

Living in Øygarden you are surrounded by the ocean, and the oceans resources have always been, and still are important. As a visitor you can take a walk trough history. With films, images, text and objects we tell the story of how different societies have emerged in Øygarden, and how daily life in this exposed area of the western coast has changed over time.
