Life by the sea

Did you know that the coastal landscape of Norway is a result of the human activities and occupation for the last 11.000 years?

  • Roy Bjørge / Museum Vest

Our main exhibition "Life by the sea" tells the story of the very first Norwegians and how they used the available resources through the ages - from hunting to fishing and farming, from peat cutting to oil and gas, and now moving towards the green transition.

Take a walk through our exhibition and follow the evolution of the Øygarden community. Through photo, film, text, and artifacts we tell how life here in Øygarden has changed through the times - from the first humans came at the end of the last ice age and until the present time.
